Help for Acne – Don't Worry About Baby Acne

by : Allan Lim
No mother will feel too happy seeing her beloved baby having a face full of pimples, but it just happens sometimes. This is commonly called the baby acne, similar to what most teenagers and young adults suffer from.

Like the common acne, there is no single known cause for acne. Also, extremely effective baby acne treatments seem to be unknown too. This is coupled with the fact that babies usually have delicate and sensitive skin. In fact, it is generally recommended for baby acne to be left alone and heal on its own.
One possible cause of acne is due to hormonal changes that occur due to the separation from the mother's womb. While not all babies will be affected by baby acne, some will. Other possible reasons include reaction to formula as well as post natal medications.

Fortunately, baby acne tends to go away by itself, usually in just a few days. For some babies, the condition may last a bit longer, up to several weeks or more. Usually, baby acne will not show up until the baby is a few weeks old.

First time parents are usually more concern and understandably so. They are concern about the beauty of their baby. However, there is usually no need to get too frantic about the condition.
What is more important is a basic understanding of what baby acne is about. First, baby acne is not cause by dirt or the lack of hygiene. Never attempt scrubbing or it can make the baby acne worse.
Usually, baby acne should be treated with regular bathing, using mild baby soap. As mentioned above, a baby's skin is incredibly delicate. Only light sponge bathing is required even if baby acne is present.
Sometimes, baby acne just seems to be very persistent and doesn't seem like it is going to heal any time soon. In this kind of situation, some parents may start to feel panic. They may even be tempted to medicate the skin themselves. Try to avoid doing so.

Creams used to treat teenage and adult acne are not designed with the baby's delicate skin in mind. They are only meant for teenage and adults. Self medicating may hurt the fragile skin of a baby. If the condition is really serious, it is best to consult a doctor. The doctor will decide what the best treatment available for the baby is.
Baby acne is perhaps a phase that many babies will have to go through. While all parents want their babies to be pretty, there is usually no major cause for concern when it comes to baby acne as it will usually pass.
If the condition get too serious, never attempt self medication. Seeking medical assistance is definitely a much better approach.
